What is Lure Coursing? Lure coursing is a sport that re-creates the "chase of the hare" by a pursuing hound. The "bunny" is made up of white plastic attached to some fine rope. The rope is then pulled through a field and loops around some pulleys to simulate the zigzag motion of a rabbit on the run. There are many different types of sighthounds that course including the Afghan, Basenji, Borzoi and Irish Wolfhound just to name a few. Why do people Lure Course their dogs? Some people Lure Course their dogs for the fun of it, some course for sport. A Lure Coursing Field Champion Title is just as impressive as a Racing Stakes Winner or an American Kennel Club Best of Breed Champion. Is it Racing? Coursing is not merely a race. Greyhounds and the other participating sighthound breeds are judged not only on speed, but also on enthusiasm during the course, agility in making turns, how accurately they follow the path of the lure, and their endurance in completing the course. How can I Lure Course my retired racer? The first thing you need to make certain of is that your ex-racer is physically fit and free of any injuries. Locate a Lure Coursing group in your area and surf the internet, and library to read about Lure Coursing. Do you have any links for Lure Coursing? Yes I do!!!! Here they are, happy reading. Tally Ho!!
